Thomas Haywood Stark, 63, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away in his office on December 17, 2018.

Tom was born in Durham, North Carolina on August 3, 1955. Tom is survived by his wife Roxanne Bragg, sons Michael Stark (Emily) and Jonathan Stark (Sara), stepson Kevin Cash (Shereen), stepdaughter Lynn Bowling (Tripp), mother Betty Lou Stark, brothers Walter Stark (Betsy) and Paul Stark (Traci), sister Sarah Ann Reed (Charles), grandchildren Oliver, Reid and Eleanor Stark, Joey Pendleton and Kyleigh Cash, along with many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. He is preceded in death by his father the Reverend Dr. Rufus Haywood Stark, II. Tom was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to everyone.

Tom was a graduate of Duke University and Duke University School of Law. He practiced law in Durham for thirty-five years with various firms and ultimately with Stark Law Group, PLLC, which he opened in 2003. Tom truly loved practicing law and established himself as a pillar of the legal community in Durham. When not in the office or in the courtroom, Tom had a deep passion for fun and adventure including hunting, horseback riding, music, exploring the outdoors, and excursions with his wife.

Tom’s everlasting legacy will be his family, his law practice and his commitment to the community and his clients. Tom was a natural leader and truly believed in helping others. He made personal sacrifices to serve his community in multiple capacities including as the North Carolina Republican Party’s parliamentarian and general counsel for the past few years.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, NC 27701, on Friday, December 21, 2018. Funeral services for Tom will be held at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church, 504 W. Chapel Hill St. Durham, NC 27701, on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Tom will be laid to rest at 3:30 pm at Popes Chapel United Church of Christ, 1237 Pocomoke Rd., Franklinton, NC 27525.
